Glue Resist Technique

Another fun background challenge from Trish Bee at our group, "Next Generation Stampers." You can find the detailed directions at http://trishbee.co.uk/?p=341 . Here are the basics you will need matte white card stock, school glue (you might as well see if they have it in 5 gal. buckets cause this is so yummy, messy and kewl), around the house items to create designs in the glue, some type of credit card for scraping, inks (I will just say inks because in our group every kind of ink was used, pigment, dyes, mists, powders, metallics...), I used freezer paper to protect my working surface, and lastly but most important is patience. Once you work up your glue backgrounds they pretty much have to dry overnight, trust me on this, do not attempt to play too early. I created my backgrounds kind of early, so they do not have the razzzmatazzzz (beautiful) like some of the others. I will ask a couple of the girls if I can link their art pieces here for you to see. 1957 Retro Tag Book-Kitchens/Music

First, sorry about the size of these next 3 tags. I forgot to resize and by golly I am just to tired to redo but do appreciate you looking.
After I created two kitchen tags for this set of 3, my eye caught the photo below of lady sifting thru those marvelous 33 albums. Had to include it. I wanted a background that reminded me of 1957 textiles. This little square piece in my stash was so perfect. I chose the bingo game piece because of the 57. I gave it a good distress job and felt it was then complete.

It was interesting that by the time I chose the pieces for the next two kitchen tags, it was obvious that in that time, (models anyway) they wore heels, aprons, and loved that phone. You know, the Ozzie and Harriet look. Oh, and most floors had the two color checker board thing going on. I have really enjoyed putting my tags together. Again, I must salute my group Artists Circle and leader, Cindy Powell.

This little tag has a behind the scene, so to speak, secret hiding place.
It is revealed in the second photo by moving the CONFIDENTIAL tag upward and taada.

I knew the minute I found this lady she was going in my tag book. She is dressed to the nines with gloves, heels, umbrella and look at that hat! Exquisite Form.

The original photo of these two ladies was black-n-white. All the color was painted on with watercolors. I have no idea what they are really drinking. I painted the mysterios liquid a brownish color so hey, a variety of drinks come to my mind *grin*. I wrote Funny Face on their hats because the movies premiere was 1957 and I so love that movie.

The tags above are the result of a challenge announced during the month of January 2008 by our group leader Cindy Powell. Group site is at http://tiny.cc/group Each step was fun and educational. Especially viewing the big variety our group created in each step.

Brief directions below:

1) You need 12 med.- lg. shipping tags

2) stain tags with coffee/tea (let me tell you I could make a list a mile long of some of the wild and crazy ingredients we all used to stain our tags, its kind of a wild and crazy group that way, fun and talented! Ok, where was I?)

3) divide your 12 tags in sets of three = 4 sets .

3a) add watercolor to set 1.

3b) use acrylic washes on set 2 .

3c) marble with shaving cream, messy fun to set 3.

3d) dye inks on set 4.

3e) drybrush with gesso all 12 tags.

4) embellish (all, some, mix) by embossing, pockets, stamping, collage, tape transfers and more.

5) Bind with rings, ribbons and fibers, grommets, you choose.

Shining Stones Technique

These backgrounds are my first attempts at the Shining Stones Technique presented to our group, "Next-Generation-Stampers, " by our leader Trish Bee. We all know how this goes, our marvelous list moms give us a challenge, we create, and then when we share our art on the group (this is when the real magic begins) every single members work is different. What a tremendous example of art! I love it. The background in my header is another example, I thought it was a perfect match to my subtitle. Thank you Trish. NGS a great group. We will have background technique(s) each month of 2008, place them or parts of each in a sketchbook along with a description of how we created each one. Wow, what an awesome book this will be at the end of the year. We are just beginning our second background, "Gloopy Glue Technique." Trust me, its easy-messy and so fun. My First Post

I believe this will not be as scary as I imagine. Making the transistion from a lurker to a participant in groups I belong to gave me the confidence to create this blog. Instead of peeking in the windows, I have walked (slow and cautious at times) thru the door, looked around, introduced myself and joined in the fun. Try it! Now back to some major tweaking of my playground. It's a little boring right now for me.
